What does LH do in your body?

LH (luteinizing hormone) is the hormone that triggers your ovulation. A mid-cycle LH surge signals your ovaries to release a mature egg. If LH levels are too high or too low, it can affect whether and when you ovulate.

What's included in Maybe Baby's hormone test?

Our test measures LH along with up to 11 other hormones for a complete picture of your hormonal health.

Apart from a slightly scary prick, the whole Maybe Baby experience was positive! The results were clear and easy to understand. The wait felt a bit long for me due to weekends and holidays, so it was also appreciated when you informed me about the delay.

Jessica

Good instructions on how to perform the test, nice to have both a summary and more detailed information about the different parts of the results.

Molly

The most wonderful treatment and I still have great contact with you. So incredibly grateful for what you do. So happy that I got to experience the wonderful thing you've created.

LH Luteinizing Hormone

Think of LH as the starting signal for ovulation - it's the hormone that gives your ovaries the go-ahead to release a mature egg.

What does it do?

LH is produced in the pituitary gland and controls ovulation. Mid-cycle, a sharp LH surge triggers the release of a mature egg from the ovary. LH also plays a role in stimulating progesterone production after ovulation.

Why does it matter?

Understanding your LH level can provide clarity about your ovulation and menstrual cycle. High LH levels relative to FSH can indicate PCOS, while low levels may suggest that ovulation is not occurring.

Reference range: LH varies throughout the cycle. Follicular phase: 2-15 IU/L, ovulation peak: 22-105 IU/L, luteal phase: 1-12 IU/L.
